This is fine, because Jiro wouldn't advocate for killing them. He's on the side of the roaches here. They're alive and they can have some food, but not all of it. While Sandy and Louis discuss whatever, Jiro looks for other things to eat that don't involve preparation, like cereal.

He can ignore them just as well as they can ignore him.
